To many outsiders the F&B fraternity seems to be quite exciting and glamorous. Nitin Kothari about the role that passion played in his amazing journey helming two iconic brands Mocambo & Peter Cat he candidly shared that he was very glad I asked him this question. His son Siddharth Kothari is now also completely immersed in taking these two iconic brands forward and shares his father’s passion & dream. ![]() He is a highly respected figure in the F&B fraternity and is always kind enough to take time out to speak with me. ![]() Nitin Kothari, the second generation owner. Mocambo was one of the first nightclubs that opened in Kolkata with live music, a six-piece band helmed by the Anton Menezes, it was elegant, chic and glamorous and the memories remain strong even though the music was shut down in the 1970’s Mocambo still continued to be one of the most popular places to dine at and remains so till date.ĭuring my research for this article I had the good fortune of a lovely detailed conversation with Mr. Right from its pre-opening days when the work was being executed by a German architect Mr Messerschmidt was created the décor which remains unchanged to the present day. Mr.Prandhe was a big influence in shaping and creating the Mocambo we all know and love. ![]() He was an Italian which is why you will find many classic European and Italian dishes on offer in the Mocambo menu like Chicken Sicilian, Fish a la Diane, Chicken a la Kiev, Chateaubriand Beef Steak and many more delectable dishes. Kothari believed that Europeans were restaurateurs and confectioners par excellence so he employed Antonio Prandhe as the first chef-cum-manager of Mocambo.
